Leigh Povia is a NJ Licensed Clinical Social Worker, a Registered Play Therapist and a NJ Certified School Social Worker. She holds a Masters Degree in Social Work from Rutgers, The State University of NJ.
Ms. Povia began her academic and clinical training working with children and families. Her previous experience includes clinical practice with youth in crisis placed in both short term and long term residential facilities, students in Special Education programs for Emotionally Disturbed teens and children who have Pervasive Developmental Disorder.
Ms. Povia has developed a concentration in trauma informed treatment. She has trained extensively in the theory of the attachment relationship between parent and child and how that relationship impacts the way the individual views the world around them. In addition to her training as a Play therapist, Leigh is trained in Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Neurofeedback and Neuro Emotional Technique. All interventions are guided by the most current brain research available.
In addition to her clinical work, Ms. Povia has taught in the Rutgers University, School of Social Work, Graduate Program. She also is a Past Vice President of Training for the New Jersey chapter of the Association for Play Therapy. Ms. Povia runs continuing education courses at Center For Dynamic Growth.
