Attachment Therapies

imagge

The attachment relationship between a child and its parent is the basis for how the child develops their sense of who they are in the world. When this relationship is disrupted for any reason the child's sense of self is scued to reflect negative beliefs about them as a person. Disruptions occur for many reasons. Obvious ones are abuse and neglect, but they can occur for other reasons as well in healthy families. For example children who suffer chronic ear infections or sometimes with colicky babies where parents are unable to soothe their child's discomfort reflect behaviors of those who have an attachment disruption later in life. Helping a child or an adult change their negative belief about themselves can help them to grow emotionally, spiritually and interpersonnally.

Center for Dynamic Growth incorporates therapeutic interventions that were designed specifically to meet these needs.

Synergistic Trauma and Attachment Therapy – The STAT Model

The STAT model addresses the needs of a child and family dealing with issues of significant trauma, especially related to interrupted attachment. STAT interweaves multiple healing modalities into the therapeutic process, at the appropriate time and with best practices of safety and efficacy, to promote wellness. Such therapeutic modalities as Theraplay®, EMDR , EEG Biofeedback, Narrative Therapy , Occupation Therapy, attachment and trauma therapies, family and specifically parent support, education, evaluation, and NeuroEmotional Technique, are integrated into a total approach to healing in one, comfortable and safe setting.

Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP)

As stated at www.dyadicdevelopmentalpsychotherapy.org DDP was created by Dan Hughes, Ph.D., author of Attachment Focused Family Therapy , Building the Bonds of Attachment – Awakening Love in Deeply Troubled Children and Attachment Focused Parenting – Effective Strategies to Care for Children, as an attachment based therapeutic intervention to aid individuals who experienced complex trauma and/or a significant separation from their primary caregiver. The approach incorporates the PACE Attitude – Playful, Accepting, Curious and Empathic – while focusing on changing the meaning of the trauma through the “intersubjective experience.”

Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics (NMT)

NMT was created by Dr. Bruce Perry and provides a way of evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of a child based on their developmental stage , life history and resources. NMT provides a comprehensive look at where the child is and where they need to go and incorporates recommendations for educational, enrichment and therapeutic interventions. More information about NMT can be found on the Child Trauma Academy's website at www.childtrauma.org
